Seeing Lisa with Milhouse reminds Bart that he was never able to keep a girlfriend and, after four of his exes have rejected him persuades the family to go to New York, where he tracks down his old flame Mary Spuckler. However Mary's father Cletus comes to take her home against her wishes and Bart, happy that Mary seems to truly care for him, helps her escape. Meanwhile Marge and Lisa stage their own version of 'Romeo and Juliet' at an out-door theatre when the actors go on strike.
